We are an all-volunteer organization and rely on their dedication and help to accomplish our goals of rescuing and rehoming cats and dogs. Here’s what you need to know:
Anyone can apply who loves and respects animals, is reliable and wants a fulfilling experience volunteering (although if under 18, we ask for your parent or guardian’s approval).
Your work, regardless of the volunteer position, plays a part in saving an animal’s life. Oh…and you get to work with some really cool people. Aren’t those all the benefits you need!
This is an amazing, hands-on experience working directly with outdoor cat colonies. It requires at least a 3-month commitment to visit the specific colony daily, feed the cats, keep track of which cats are seen and spend some time checking on the condition and behavior of those cats. This is one of the most rewarding opportunities – the cats look forward to seeing you each day, many will get to know your routine and be waiting for you at the feeding station. You will see first-hand how very special these intuitive, curious, vulnerable felines are and how they rely and count on the kindness of us humans to survive. It is an extremely fulfilling opportunity!
BIg Hands little Paws will provide all food and supplies, which can either be picked up at one of our locations or delivered directly from the pet supply source. Of course, as a non-profit organization, we would always welcome you furnishing the food and/or supplies as well. But, that is not a prerequisite – just that you have a love for felines, are committed to helping these guys and have a desire to be a part of something really gratifying. If this sounds like you, please click the application link below, complete and sign it and send back to us. We will get back to you within a few days.
Fostering is the foundation for rescuing all animals. Without foster parents, our rescue efforts would suffer. This position will assist Big Hands Little Paws’ team in expanding our foster program, updating our database and coordinating the actual fosters. You will manage the application process and conduct home visits of potential foster parents, keep track of the animals going in and out of the foster program and help in signing-up new foster parents.
This is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity. You get to have a hands-on role in seeing the animals from rescue to foster to adoption. We ask for a 3-month commitment. If interested, click on the link below, complete and sign the application and return to us. We will notify you within a few days.
Adoptions are our main goal and a great way for people to fall in love with their future pet is meeting them at one of these events. This position needs someone who is creative and detail-oriented. As a planner, you will work with our teams in planning adoption events. This includes locating venues, setting-up the venue space for our animals and making arrangements for the transport of animals and supplies to and from the event.
Are you not into planning, but love being around animals? Well, you can volunteer as an Animal Handler at the Big Hands Little Paws’ events. You will greet our available cats and dogs when they arrive, get them settled into their cage or space, take the dogs for walks and keep the cat cages clean, make introductions and answer questions from would-be adopters. If you would like to volunteer for one or both of these positions, click on the link below, complete and sign the application and return to us. We will notify you within a few days.
Have you always wanted to be a part of an organization, but your schedule does not allow full time active commitment to the cause? Do you love animals and are just as heartbroken as we are when dogs and cats are euthanized, when they are abused or orphaned or when they are simply born to the streets? If so, and if you own your own vehicle, we could really use your help. We need responsible, caring individuals to volunteer as transporters – picking a cat or dog (or the occasional rabbit) up from a shelter, driving the pet to or from a vet’s office, taking that dog or cat to their foster parent or to their forever home or to pick up and deliver supplies.
Being a transporter is not full time, yet it is a vital position in Big Hands Little Paws. Without these volunteers, we would be unable to rescue, foster or vet the animals and fewer pets would be saved and adopted. It is a valuable role and very satisfying – you get to interact directly with the cat or dog and get to observe, first-hand, the journey of this pet from the shelter or street to their new life. If you want to join our transportation team, please click the link below for our application, complete and sign it and send back. We will notify you within a few days.
Educating our communities is vital for a real change to take place. The education program at Big Hands Little Paws was developed to promote awareness and effectuate a change in behavior and action towards animals. It includes writing bulletins, creating video shorts and giving live presentations at schools, community centers and other venues. The topics include animal care and training, spay/neuter and other medical issues and animal behavioral insight.
This position involves working with Big Hands Little Paws’ teams in locating community and school venues, arranging and scheduling the presentations and promoting and marketing the event. If you want to join our education event planning team, please click the link below for our application, complete and sign it and send back. We will notify you within a few days.
Are you passionate about animals? Heartbroken by the abuse, neglect and abandonment of so many cats and dogs? Devastated by the killing of millions of animals each year at shelters? If animals are your cause, then this volunteer position is for you. We need people to get out in the community and make our neighbors aware of this plight, let them know what Big Hands Little Paws is doing and get them involved in our organization.
This position could involve making phone calls, handing out brochures, getting others to join our cause or just talking with people. The only way we will be able to make substantive changes is to get the masses involved. And, we need to do that one person at a time. If you would like to help us in our community efforts, please click on the link, complete and sign the application and send back to us. We will notify you within a few days.
Do you consider yourself an amateur photographer or videographer? Do you like shooting and/or filming animals? Or do you simply have a decent digital camera and know how to point and shoot? If so, Big Hands Little Paws needs you to assist our resident photography and production team in taking stills and video of our new rescues. These shoots could take place at the shelter, at the vet’s office, at the foster parent’s house or outside in the park. It requires a bit of patience and a comfort level being around animals (similar to kids, it might take some time to get the right shots). The position might also require assisting our editor with creating the final product which will get posted on our website and social media outlets and, perhaps, some of our educational or promotional videos.
If you want to have a lot of fun, and have sufficient photography or production skills, this is the volunteer opportunity for you. You will probably feel a mix of emotions, seeing these guys go from horrific conditions to loving situations – you will laugh and you might cry. But, after one of these shoots, your heart will be filled with pure happiness. It is that much fun!! If this sounds like a good fit for you, click on the link below, complete and sign the application and return to us. We will notify you within a few days.
Are you creative? Are you a designer wanna-be? Have a knack for knowing what looks good? Can determine what a specific target audience will buy? Know how to create flyers and brochures? Or, do you just love doodling and drawing stick figures? If you answered yes to one of these questions and can utilize software programs to design and develop merchandise for Big Hands Little Paws, then we want you. You will be working directly with our Creative Consultant in designing merchandise, creating the graphics for our flyers and brochures and determining logo placement.
This is a very cool volunteer position – you actually help get to design some very hip clothing, computer and phone cases, pet supplies and other items. This can be done virtually, but will require close contact with our team. If you want to see your creativity in print or on a T-Shirt, then click on the link below, complete and sign the application and submit it to us. We will notify you in a few days.

Some will be small, theme-focused and others will be large-scale galas.

You just need to be personable, outgoing and communicate well. If these positions interest you, please click on the link below, complete and sign the application and send back to us. We will notify you within a few days.
How are your writing skills? Big Hands Little Paws needs volunteers to assist in drafting stories about our available rescues and adopted pets, details regarding our upcoming events and articles for our website. This position can be done virtually as you work closely with our team in completing the different writing projects, which will be placed on our website, social media outlets or in our newsletter. Please click on the link below, complete and sign the application and send back to us. We will notify you within a few days.
This volunteer position might not sound glamorous, but it really is. Well….okay, maybe not so glamorous, but it is vital to our operations. And, the work will involve several of the Big Hands Little Paws teams. We need help with correspondence, reporting and other paperwork, as well as telephone calls and attendance at meetings.
Most of the tasks can be completed virtually, but will require constant communication with the respective team. Proficient computer skills and program knowledge is helpful. You will learn about how a non-profit organization runs, while helping with our cause. If interested, click on the link below, complete and sign the application and return to us.
